Abstract
Infant feeding for weaning and malnutrition are fundamental health problems in most of developing countries, also in Korea, particularly in Rural and Urban slum areas.
Considerable growth retardation and malnutrition are common findings among the infancy and young children.
The weaning pattern in Korea is very much same as in most developing countries where prolonged breast feeding and delayed weaning are common pattern.
These prolonged breast feeding and improper weaning without supplimentary nutriants are by far the main causes of poor growth and malnutrition.
However the first six months with sufficient breast feeding, growth is been more rapid than in over the developed countries, slow growth and retardation follows after weaning period (age of 10 to 12 months)
The Other Way round, poor growth and malnutrition of infancy is the most sensitive measure for economic poverty, disease and ignorance as well as poor weaning procedure in the same period.
According to the recent dietary and malnutritional surveys, the dietary state of infants and young children in Korea are in shortage of calory and protein intake which are far below the repuirment.
The fat intake and certain Vitamins (V-A £¦ D), minerals (Ca £¦ Fe) intake are still inadequate.
There is no suitable, readly available baby foods for weaning, and delayed Weaning is Common practice. We realized the urgent need of development and providing baby food for Weaning.
Our experimental studies were carriedout on 13 different groups of rats (9 rats in each groups) fed with 9 different, single diet and 8 combined food regems (combined with whole milk).
As a result of thi animal experimental study on weaning foods, We had selected 3 best formulas which was enriched and modified for chemical experience for baby.
Our final experimental studies were carried out on sixty healthy infants (divided into 7 groups) Who were fed by seven different foods (combined with cow¢¥s milk or breast milk) for seven months period.
Comparative studies on biophysical findings, Growth pattern, Organ development and Hemato-Biochemical analysis as well as Digestion and absorption studies were done in various groups(seven group including a control group) fed by seven different foods regem (schedule).
As result of both animal experimental and Clinical study on infant feeding, we had proved the superiality and satisfactory of our WF_(1) and WF_(2) compare with other baby foods for weaning.
